Davos 2026 did not shatter the globalist fortress, but it cracked the facade wide open, revealing a treacherous pivot that could quietly hand the reins of the so-called rules-based order (RBO) to its most cunning beneficiary: China.

This isn’t mere rivalry; it’s a cold, calculated handover, with Europe as the bridge and middle powers like Canada leading the charge eastward, all while domestic chaos in America bears the faint but unmistakable fingerprints of Chinese Communist Party (CCP) opportunism.

US Delegation

In the rarefied air of Davos, the U.S. delegation, President Trump, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, didn’t just critique the RBO; they eviscerated it, exposing a system rigged against sovereignty, democracy, and Western prosperity.^[1]

He lacerated NATO freeloaders: “The United States is keeping the whole world afloat. Without us, most of the countries don’t even work,” and needled Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney directly: “Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark.” He ridiculed Europe’s green delusions: “Windmills all over the place destroy your land… Stupid people buy them.” Even his offhand Greenland quip, “I won’t use force”, served as a stark reminder of unapologetic national interest in a world of endless, voter-ignored entanglements.^[2]

A quieter but equally potent moment came in the USA House session “From Hamilton to Today: Trade and U.S. Economic Strategy” (delivered by USTR Jamieson Greer).

Together, they unmasked the RBO’s mortal sins: unelected mandates bypassing ballots, industrial gutting that funneled trillions to elites and China, and sovereignty sold off piecemeal to forums that mocked true democracy.

Recalibration

It seemed a nationalist rout. But the elites’ responses weren’t capitulation, they were sly confession and recalibration. They aim to salvage their vision by grafting it onto a new hegemon.

These weren’t mea culpas; they were validations. Power doesn’t dissolve; it recirculates. As explored in our recent newsletters, this harmony creed inverts the Judeo-Christian dominion mandate (“Be fruitful and multiply”) into a bureaucratic theology of managed decline.

Eastern Promise

As one major outlet put it days after the forum closed, China “didn’t grab many headlines at Davos, but it’s the elephant in the room.”

Beijing grabbed scant spotlight, yet its influence loomed largest, as analysts noted a “watershed” shift toward regional trade blocs and eastward power realignment, with China’s production dominance leaving other nations “little leverage or ability to act.”

Recent months have only accelerated the courtship: leaders like Carney, Ireland’s Michael Martin, South Korea’s Lee Jae-myung, and the UK’s Keir Starmer kowtowing to Beijing for deals and photo ops, signaling post-Covid re-engagement and confidence in China’s orbit.

Yet this courtship accelerates amid visible cracks. In late January 2026, Xi Jinping purged his closest military ally, General Zhang Youxia, along with General Liu Zhenli, hollowing out the Central Military Commission in the most sweeping PLA shake-up since the Cultural Revolution.^[3]

Official 2025 growth hovered near 5%, but independent estimates place it closer to 3–4.8%, with momentum fading, domestic demand anemic, property still dragging, and regional banks flooding industry with cheap loans to mask decline. Projections for 2026 point to further slowdown.^[4]

RBO Hypocrisy

Trump’s tariffs, NATO pressure, and sovereignty-first jabs draw immediate, heated rebukes as assaults on the “spirit of dialogue” and multilateral norms. Yet China’s documented horrors, mass detention and forced labor of Uyghurs (deemed genocide by Canada’s Parliament in 2021 and independent tribunals), credible allegations of forced organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners and minorities (ongoing in 2025–2026 whistleblower reports and U.S. legislative pushes), cultural erasure, and surveillance-state repression, elicit only occasional, pro-forma statements (EU Human Rights Day reaffirmations, muted UN expert alarms in January 2026 on forced labor of Uyghurs and Tibetans).

These rarely derail deepening Belt and Road ties, investment flows, or “pragmatic” resets like Carney’s January Beijing visit, which prioritized trade lifelines (energy, EVs, canola) over pressing Uyghur issues despite urgent pre-trip calls from Human Rights Watch, the World Uyghur Congress, and the Raoul Wallenberg Centre.^[5]

Protests

Worse, this eastern seduction coincides with America’s internal unraveling, where protests, anti-ICE blockades, “No Kings” rallies, bear the subtle prints of CCP-aligned funding alongside more established RBO players such as Soros. Neville Roy Singham, the Shanghai-based billionaire with deep party ties, funnels millions to groups like the People’s Forum and Party for Socialism and Liberation, orchestrating chaos that exhausts nationalists and polarizes the electorate.^[6]

This manufactured discord sets the stage for a post-2028 “restoration,” flipping Trump-era gains and isolating America as Europe kneels eastward.

This internal subversion extends beyond street-level chaos. Recent revelations point to longer-term positioning: Democrat alignment to China, too many to note here. Chinese nationals continue exploiting birth tourism loopholes, raising concerns about future access for influence operations or espionage. Chinese-linked entities own hundreds of thousands of acres of U.S. farmland, some alarmingly close to military installations, fueling fears of potential drone-launch platforms or surveillance hubs. And in just this month, a Las Vegas home raid uncovered suspected illegal biological materials tied to the infamous 2023 Reedley biolab, run by a Chinese national already under federal scrutiny.

These are not isolated incidents but elements of asymmetric positioning: quiet, patient infiltration that exploits openness while Beijing waits in the shadows, whilst cheered on by RBO cheerleaders.

Cold War 2.0

Trump’s delegation scored a tactical victory, exposing rot, forcing admissions, carving breathing room. But the war escalates. The elites’ endgame remains unchanged: a world of enforced compliance, where the RBO’s flaws aren’t fixed but exported to a new master in Beijing.

Vigilance demands piercing the veil: spot the hypocrisy in Carney’s Thucydides lament, the complicity in decades of BRI blindness, the foreign shadows in America’s streets, and the quiet elephant now claiming the room, despite its own cracks.
